 Track and Field Athletics Minimize

Our track is situated in Timperley and has a cinder surface. Most track and field events are catered for with steeplechase barriers being a new addition for 2004. Training takes place at the track on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
In the senior ranks we compete in Northern League division 3 which is a combined mens and womens team now. Every event from pole vault to steeplechase is practiced, the meets are held at 4 different venues in the area.
The junior section of the club is very active in track and field with some notable recent success over a variey of events.

Greater Manchester County Championships

Four of our young athletes achieved County Champion status with five gold medals at Longford Park on Sunday 7th June. First off the mark was Peter Rice who won the U17 400m hurdles and followed this up by winning the high jump with 1.50 metres. Adam Simms then won the U17 long jump with a leap of 5.55 metres and Sophie Preece produced a personal best, winning the U15 high jump with a clearance at 1.45 metres. Chloe Smith won the U17 javelin with 28.21 metres, just a day after smashing her own Club record with 29.88 metres at our Northern League match at Halifax.
Silver medals were won by Adam Simms with a new Club record of 12.11 metres in the U17 triple jump and Peter Rice with a personal best of 31.45 metres in the javelin whilst Isabel Hainsworth won bronze in the 100m and 200m with 13.33s and 27.47s.
Considering the cold and damp conditions all eleven of our young athletes who turned out produced exemplary results, including young Thomas Richardson who, after qualifying for the final of the U11 75 metres, narrowly missed out on a medal.

Young Athletes League

Our young athletes won their second round match in the Young Athletes League at Longford Park on May 31st, beating Trafford and Salford Mets to whom they had lost in the first round match at a very wet Eccles two weeks earlier.

Altrincham                 467.0
Trafford                      451.0
Salford Mets              387.0
Leigh                         262.0
Manx                         262.0
Manchester               179.0

These scores will change as I have already found one error which will reduce our score by 6 points and could increase Trafford's by the same amount. Assuming there are no further adjustments Trafford, Altrincham and Salford Mets are all on 10 points and we have all to play for.

Northern Track & Field League

ADAC were clear winners of the first match of the Northern Track & Field League, Division 4WC at Woodbank Park, Stockport on Saturday 2nd May. There was a magnificent club record in the 4 x 400m relay by the ladies, voted the best race of the match by Mike Welford, closely followed by the Battle of the Normans in the 5000 metres!
There were in fact four new club records at the match. In addition to the ladies 4 x 400m relay performance, Chloe Smith created a new U16 record in the hammer and broke the U16 javelin record. Surprisingly, until recently a record did not exist for the U20 ladies 3000m when Charlotte Bent set a modest 13 min 35.3 sec in a match in which she also ran 1500m. Under her team manager’s orders to 'jog round' this time as a warm up for the 1500m later in the day, she ran 13 min 12.7 sec! When Charlotte gets the opportunity to go 'all out', John Snape says he is sure she will improve considerably. Overall this was a fantastic start to the season but we need to get everyone out again for the next match at Halifax.
