Resumption of Senior Endurance Training for ADAC Members

From October there will be 2 different Tuesday sessions, these will appear shortly on the club website. There will be a different format as we have realised that as a club, we are not being targeted enough in covering all the distances our athletes race. Previously we had 2 groups both covering the very broad range of distances from 5k to Marathon.

From October Mansel will be running sessions aimed at 5k/10k/Cross-country and Phil will be setting sessions aimed at Half-Marathon/Marathon/Cross-country. Both sessions are open to all seniors irrespective of race targets as you may want to do some over or under distance work, (just be aware of the broad targets of these groups). Any juniors who train with the seniors can only do the 5K/10K/Cross-country group sessions. The 2 groups will come together every 4 weeks to do a joint track session (this will be a faster session to maintain speed). The sessions Mansel sets will broadly be the same as previously, but Phil’s sessions will be very different. Please see the club website for details.

You will still need to book your places as per the Covid restrictions. Carry on booking your places for Mansel’s sessions as you have been doing and contact Phil by email for his. There will also be a link on the club website.

Resumption of Senior Endurance Training for ADAC Members

We are planning to resume training on the track for senior endurance athletes from Tuesday 1st September.

Under current Government/UK Athletic guidelines, we are currently restricted to a maximum of 12 athletes in a group per coach. Phil is unavailable for the first 3 weeks of September so it is planned to hold sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, in September. The sessions will be the same for all 3 evenings to give everyone who wishes to do the session the chance to do so. Phil will be setting the sessions and they will all be ‘timed’ as opposed to running a set distance.

If you wish to take part in one of the sessions, please email me at training@altrincham-athletics.co.uk with your preferred evening for September and if one evening is oversubscribed, then the first 12 replies will get the place for the first week. All athletes will need to sign in on the night with a contact number. Sessions start at 7:30 to reduce congestion as juniors enter/leave. Please do not attend if you feel unwell and/or currently in a household with someone isolating. Remember social distancing at all times wherever possible.

Please bear with us as we try this out and be aware, we may have to make alterations as we get to grips with how this works in practice. We are hopeful of gradually increasing capacity and returning to a more normal training pattern. Thank you all for your patience during this difficult period. The attitude and understanding from all elements of the club has been exemplary.

Regards

Mansel
