Congratulations to Mike Jones who completed his 250th parkrun at Burnage on 2nd Januay.

Cheered on by his wife Maggie, who ran her own 250th parkrun in August, he ran his 250th parkrun less than eight years after his first one which was at Bramhall in May 2008.

Three members of the Pavey family along with Pete Hill and Colin Davies joined Mike for the run.

He is pictured on the right approaching the finish.

Mike will soon be wearing the shiny new 250-club t-shirt pictured here.

Saturday 2nd January Burnage Parkrun report by race director Katherine Fisher

Our first run of the year saw three people celebrating some milestone events.
First of all, Elizabeth Pavey (JW11-14) ran her 10th parkrun. She has done 7 at Wythenshawe and 1 each at Lyme Park, Stretford and Burnage. Well done to you and thank you for visiting. Secondly, Bruce Green (VM60-64) paid his second visit to us to celebrate his 50th run.
Bruce helped with the beginnings of Cheadle Hulme parkrun by setting up the course and is
a regular tail runner there. Well done on this great achievement.
Last but by no means least, is Mike Jones (VM60-64) who completed his 250th run today.
Mike began parkrunning way back in 2008 at Bramhall where he has done the majority of his
runs (107). However, he became a regular at Burnage in 2012 and has now completed 97 with us. He had a hip replacement last year but that didn‟t stop him for long and his times are slowly but surely getting back to where they were. His wife Maggie completed her 250th way back in August but is injured at the moment and so Mike has got a chance to catch up a bit! Huge congratulations from us all Mike. There was celebratory cake at the finish (thanks Mike) and it was great to see so many of you hanging around for a post-run chat.

From Mike Jones

I completed my 250th parkrun on Saturday 2nd January 2016 at Burnage after running 248 at South Manchester (Platt Fields) and 249 at Stretford (Longford Park) on New Year‟s Day.

My first parkrun was at Bramhall Park in 2008 when
83 runners took part in the third event at the park.
Since that first parkrun these 5K events across the UK and abroad have expanded and the number taking part has increased. Bramhall regularly gets more than 300 runners and there are now more than 40 events across the North West of England. Parkrun has been very successful in encouraging non-runners to start running. I have run at 11 different parkruns, in the build up to my 250th run, interrupted just over 15 months ago by a hip operation. The first parkrun back after the operation took me 49 minutes as I walked round the course!

This has gradually come down to around 26 minutes. Burnage Parkrun starts outside the Rugby Club and runs along the Mersey and is my regular event. The surface is mixed terrain, including a few muddy bits. A tradition has been established at Burnage that significant milestones such as 50, 100 and 250 parkruns are marked with cakes. A tradition I was happy to continue!

A big thank you to Pete Hill, Richard Pavey, Thomas Pavey, Elizabeth Pavey (congratulations to her on her 10th parkrun) and Colin Davies for coming to run and support me on my 250th and to Maggie for marshalling and support. Also thanks go to the regulars at Burnage for their encouragement.
