A big congratulations to Jade Buckley-Ratcliff who has had multiple successes in multi-event competitions held at Woodbank Park, Stockport.

First up was the Tri-Athletics held across several week nights.  The idea of these events is that your best jump, throw, sprint and endurance performances count towards your overall score.  Well, that suits Jade down to the ground.  Few U13 girls can cope with her powerful throwing ability in the shot, javelin, discus and hammer.  She also has the spring to put in strong showings in the jumps and anyone watching our YDL relays this year will know that you don’t want Jade chasing you down on the last leg!

What jade also has is the ability to produce the goods when it matters.  During the Tri-Athletics she set PBs in the shot, long jump, 600m and high jump.  In the high jump she achieved the magic 1.40m!  All these heroics were enough to see her to the top of the podium leaving quality athletes from Sale and Stockport in her wake.

On Saturday 22 July Jade was back in action again for a Quadratlon.  This was an even more competitive event than the Tri-Athletics that attracted some of the most promising multi-eventers from the North of England.  She managed to finish 5th in both the long jump and 100m with an 11th place in her weakest event, the 800m.  In the latter she attained a time of 2:51:34, pretty good for someone not so keen on endurance running.  Her highlight performance was winning the shot putt with a new PB of 8:83.  This was Jade’s 12th win out of 12 in the shot this year and 22nd out of 23 in throwing events.

Jade didn’t manage to win overall, but still sneaked into the medals after finishing joint 3rd.  Who knows what she does with all this silverware?

So the successes keep coming.  It’s great to see an athlete that started training with Altrincham an the age of 8 performing to such a high level.  Power of 10 shows Jade as among the top 50 U13 girls in six different events!  Who knows how much better she can become?
