Sportshall Athletics

Sportshall Athletics is a multi-event competition held at Sportscity, three times a year, with an additional medal meet at the end of the season. Athletes take part in running, jumping and throwing events, along with team relays. Further details and entry information will be shared with the junior athletes through our WhatsApp groups.

2026/2027 season provisional dates are:

Junior Cross Country

Our club proudly competes across the Manchester Area (MACCL), Altrincham Schools and Trafford Athetics Club Schools cross country leagues, giving our junior athletes the chance to race against some strong competition throughout the season. The events offer a great mix of challenging courses, team spirit and individual development, with opportunities for runners of all abilities to take part and progress.

MACCL

Athletes must be pre-registered through the club, there are strictly no entries on the day. Payment for the league will be required by each athlete for the season. The 2026-2027 season cost will be £11 for all 5 races including the cross country challenge at Sefton Park, Liverpool. If you do not want to race at Sefton Park, the cost will be £8 for the other 4 races. If your junior athlete would like to compete in the MACCL series, a registration and payment link will be sent out in September.

Spikes are useful in some events, especially after periods of heavy rain but some athletes prefer trial shoes.

Altrincham Schools Cross Country Series

ADAC organises the Altrincham Schools Cross Country Series held at John Leigh Park. Children from local schools are welcome to represent their school, and we also encourage our junior athletes to participate in the series. Races start at 10am on the following dates:

Saturday 3rd October

Saturday 7th November

Saturday 5th November

If your child would like to compete, please either speak to your coach or school for further information. No pre-race registration is required. Trail shoes are recommended, no spikes allowed on the course.

Trafford Schools Cross Country League

In addition to the MACCL series, we also encourage our young athletes to compete in the Trafford Athletic Club Cross Country Series at Longford Park, Stretford. The events start at 10.30am for secondary and 11.00am for primary on the following dates:

Age Groups are as follows:

Secondary races are approximately 2km in length and start at 10.30am. Years 8/9/10/11 all run together.

Primary races are approximately 1.5km and start at 11.00am.

Please note that races may take place entirely on grass or on a mixture of grass and tarmac, depending on the conditions. Therefore, spikes may not always be suitable. All races are weather dependent.

No pre-entry required, just turn up on the day.

Track and Field

Winter indoor series

For anyone interested in competing indoors this winter, Sale Harriers will be holding an indoor track series at Sports City (next to the Etihad Stadium). The 2027 series will be held on the following dates:

• 24th January
• 7th February
• 14th March
• 28th March

The events are suitable for U14 through to seniors. Events include 60m, 200m, 300m and 600m. Some field events are also available.
