General Training Sessions

These sessions are based on those devised by the recently retired coach Don Nichol.

Don had been a member of Altrincham since 1976, taking up coaching the following year. He eventually reached level 4 for coaching endurance events and Marathon. He was also North West Regional Coach for endurance events.

He later lectured on developing endurance at Lancaster University and also lectured at South Trafford College on Anatomy, Physiology and Biomechanics.

The sessions are now run by Mansel Pope, the current  club chair, and himself a runner with more than thirty years experience.

The sessions are held every Tuesday evening at the track on Park Road, Timperley at 7.15pm and athletes should be warmed up and ready to start at this time.

Non members of the club are welcome to attend these sessions, but a decent level of fitness and running background are required to manage and complete each session.

Tues 3rd  5 sets of 1x700m, 90 sec rec followed by 1x 300m. 3min jog rec between sets

Tues 10th 6x800m 2min rec

Tues 17th 12x 90sec, 60 sec rec

Tues 24th 8x 300m, 2min rec, followed by ADAC AGM

Fri 27th Mid Cheshire 5K (club championship race)


Tues 1st Session in John Leigh Park

4 sets of 30sec hill rep, 90sec sustained effort, 30sec hill rep, 3.5 min effort, 2mins between efforts, 4mins between sets.

Sun 6th Tatton Park 10K (club championship race)

Tues 8th 4 sets of 3x400m, 75 secs rec. 3min jog rec between sets.

Tues 15th 5 sets of 3x 300m, 75sec rec, 3m jog between sets

Tues 22nd 8x 500m, 90sec rec
